Tachometer cable

  • Broke the tachometer cable.
Better, the broken part is the flexible metal wire that turns inside the guide.
Yamaha sells only the complete transmission at impressive prices.
In fact this wire should be similar to many other, specially those for moppeds.
Any has an info in compatibility?

    viel Dank, Marco

  • Hy guy !

The speedometer cable is only better to change it complet. You can´t become only the inside cable.
Take for all special parts, not yamaha expansive parts, a look on the Kedo side.
German side but also writen in english. And there can also send the parts to italy. http://www.kedo.com
You can change the rear sproket to a sproket from the first XT250, looks like a XT 500, and in front by the gearbox on a sproket from the TT 350, XT 600, first one, and then you need a chain 520 with 125 parts.
But attention, you have now a very short gear drive and you can only drive full speed 105 km!!!!!

    have a nice week

    achtung dement!
ja ich bin direkt, aber ehrlich.

  • Viel Dank, Georg, I'm gonna take a look on Kedo site.
But i guess it is possible to change the inner wire, I'll try to find the way:

    http://www.qsl.net/iz7ath/moto/contakm/index.htm

this guy has done the same on an Africa Twin.
I imagine the procedure has to be quite the same.

Thanks again und aufwiedersen (one of these years, I'll be able to speak a good German, if you don't CHANGE IT TOO MUCH WITH LAWS      )

  • Hi there!
You really can change the speedometer-cable inner part, but usually iit won`t make sense, because there must be a reason, why it broke. In most cases it´s due to a hurt of the outside plastic-cover, so that whater and dirt may reach the inside. Usually the drilled wires get rusty by times and break.
Unfortunately it´s very hard, to find the inside parts only, so that´s easier to change the whole speedometer-cable assy.
Fortunatelly on the other hand is the fact, that you can find OEM-Quality without OEM-Yamaha-Supplements on the Site, TT-George listet: http://www.kedo.de
Depending on changing the chain-measurement from 428 to 520 it´s easy to calculate the transmission-rate.
I did the same on a italian DT125Z-Ténéré made by Belgarda and "France-Equipement" delivered the exact chain-length as I ordered the sprocket and the chainwheel in 520-size.
Don´t know, if tehy have a homepage, may be, you will have to google...
